Walking out of SMG today, I was flabbergasted. It has been a year, almost to the day, since I traipsed around downtown while enjoying my first snowfall after the SM121 final.

Once again, realization hit without advance warning. I just felt---

It's much colder now in Boston. I must say that I'm pretty bummed about winter's impending arrival. Alas, the show must go on. Isn't that so darling?

So, moving along. Here's our agenda today; Going to the movies alone?
Okayyyy... The question is rather vague. But, I will begin with my general sentiment, I feel that going to the movie alone is a great and viable form of recreation.

Personally, most of the time, I have always gone to movie theaters with at least one other person . But, I never did develop any strong preference in regards to having or not having company.

Then again, when I think about it, I watch most movies on my computer anyways. Don't we all?

Almost all the time, when I am watching a movie on my computer, I'm by myself. I like it that way too.

It is more comfortable for me, especially because I tend to cry easily. For movies, at least.

So, yeah. As a summation, I don't have any strong opinions on going to the movies alone. I've gone a couple of times by my myself, not totally in love with it but definitely don't detest it. Though, I love to watch movies on my computer more.

It is really funny, but writing about this reminds me of an advice that I've heard before. I don't remember its origins, but most probably it was something I read. Or something my Mom read.

The advice urged young women/ladies/girls to travel to a distant place alone at least once in their lives. Supposedly, it does wonders to our self-esteem. Something about bringing out our more resourceful/tougher/rough and tumble side.

I don't know about that, but being relatively alone here has made me collide headfirst into my worst fears and insecurities. And when in sticky situations, I've had to prioritize and tackle said fears/insecurities without hesitation, which is extremely liberating. So, that's awesome.

Yes, it sucks but I cannot disguise it anymore... I am uninspired. As I scour the deserted corners of my mind, I realize that my creative center has gone A.W.O.L.

Who would you call first?

If I bear good news, I would probably tell my Mom or Dad first. If the news was of the opposite nature, Syaimaa will be the first person I confide in; I need her to gauge the graveness of the said news. Only then can I plot my next move.

As soon as I got home, I meant to start working. But, of course tak jadi.

School's back in session. Surprisingly, it was a good day for me. Scratch that, it was wonderful! My Law professor returned my case analysis paper and I am so so happy with my grade. For an entire week, I believed that I had submitted a terrible paper. Rezeki, rezeki.. Alhamdulillah.

This morning, I walked to school. Yes, I walked for 50 long minutes. Aku pun tak percaya. I did it under the recommendation of my roommate, who walks to school everyday. I did it to gauge the experience, in case I decide to forgo buying my monthly T-pass for December. But, right now, I am still undecided. Haiyo.

I want to write, but so the very uninspired. So, I'll get straight to the point.

Followed my roommates to Quincy, or specifically to Walmart. The drive took us around half an hour, give and take, each way. Loved every minute of it. Allowed me to see Boston in a another perspective. Loved Walmart also, lol.

On Saturday morning, left the house at 5 a.m and headed to Revere Beach. Main purpose: watch the sunrise. It was the last morning before the Daylight Savings Time ended. Rather impressive experience, despite the lack of planning on our part.

Moments when I freaked:

a) When it looked like the clouds caught on fire
b) When the sun was hidden by clouds and its rays dispersed majestically onto the horizon and over the water.

We froze our asses off, but it was worth it. Then, we headed to Harvard Square for breakfast. After eating, walked around Harvard, or at least some parts of it. A tiny part of me wished that BU had a sprawling campus, instead of the strip down Comm Ave.

There, I have included a photo from our sunrise trip. Please believe me when I say that the pictures do not do justice to the wonder that it really was. And of course, my camera's battery died after 2 shots. So, thanks Athirah.

Have I ever told you? I may be a fan of daylight. But, I also harbour a rather dangerous passion for all things night. The ebony-stained skies. The dim twinkle of the starlight. And most definitely, the monthly swell of the silver moon.

The drive to Quincy and train ride to Revere Beach provided some relief and soothed my longings for night time travels. Urgh, yes I'm lame.

Such madness; I got all riled up, thinking that my container of lemon wedges were thrown away.

I was this close to inflicting massive destruction, but the world was saved when I caught sight of the container, perched at the edge of an overhead cabinet shelf .

I must have been really out of it, when I last made tea. Imagine, pergi letak my sliced lemon dalam cabinet, I'm going mental!

We're expecting snow tonight; the storm has already arrived at places in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Snow in October, haaaih, the leaves on the trees in my neighborhood are still green.

Oooohhh, that reminds me...

This morning, as I got out of bed and pulled up the blinds, I saw clouds of smoke swirling out of my neighbor's chimney. The sight may be ordinary to some, but I was struck. It was almost captivating to see the smoke float upwards, weightless, before blown away by the harsh Northeastern winds.

In a weird way, seeing the smoke reminded me of the year-end breaks that I used to have from school through November and December.

You know why?

Because it reminded me of all the cartoon/movie specials that were aired circa Christmas and New Year. Most of these specials (animated or not), usually began with or included an eagle eye shot of quaint houses with thick billows of smoke exiting their chimneys.

I guess, the shots were supposed to leave the viewers with a warm fuzzy feeling. Maybe...

Or Not.

Just realized that the smoke story is actually uncalled for. Sorry for wasting your time folks, but it is MY bapakupulangdarikota. So, I guess you guys have the bad end of the deal.

That rush when you're excited at a prospect of something/someone/someday; it energizes me.

Hopefully, my excitement shall carry me through these few months until the arrival of the new year.

Time is moving rather briskly, isn't it? And I should stop obsessing about it. But, it's easier said than done.

I believe I'm beginning to miss home again. Yesterday, Syaimaa and I spoke on the phone for 6 hours. We even managed to watch a movie together, which is an achievement in its own right.

Usually, one of us would succumb to the pitfalls of having a short attention span such as falling asleep, skipping the more boring parts of the movie, or picking a fight with the other. But, yesterday, the stars aligned and our alliance was unbreakable.

I am currently multitasking, yeay me. I am enduring this abhorred slice of efficiency so that I can eat breakfast, wear my tudung and publish a new post before 8.30, which is when I have to rush out for the T to BU.

I had Nasi Lemak yesterday, wooohoooo! The 3 of us, Athirah, Diana and I, pooled our ingredients and limited cooking skills to come up with a rather complete and definitely authentic Malaysian meal.

We had 'Lemak' rice sans daun pandan, kacang and ikan bilis, hard boiled eggs, the freshly sliced cucumber, ayam masak merah and D's Epic sambal tumis. Once the table was set, I swear that I was on the verge of tears, LOL.

I must say, our efforts were completely compensated. It was one of the best meals, in a while, since I have been back in Beantown.

Unfortunately, I have no photos yet. But, I will definitely show off when I can!

Now, it's Monday morning and reality is knocking at my door. Knock, knock.
But, before I surrender, I must digress and discuss Tablo.

Yeah, it has been a week since I last posted. I am in utter disbelief too, woaaaah. Lol, GILA.

I spent the earlier part of last week stressing over my Accountings and Law midterms.

Alhamdulillah, that ship has set sail. In fact, I am happy to report that my efforts were put to good use and bore rather favorable results.

It has been a while since I was an effective student, HEH. So, I'm elated.

Just a couple of days ago, I was reminded (by the ever useful statutes on FB) that there is only 8 weeks of school left! By the time Thanksgiving break comes around, it will be down to 3 weeks. And I know that by then, the rest of the semester will fly by.

Just like that, as quiet as the breeze, I will have completed the first semester of my sophomore year.

It's weird, but I am rather saddened by this realization. Very weird.

Realizing that I'm sad is itself a rather startling discovery, I suppose I'm loving my life here in Beantown more and more each day.

I was trolling on the BU site,then I found their Youtube page and stumbled upon this:

Last year, the first snowfall was on the last day of finals, around midday. It stopped before nightfall but resumed soon after midnight.

I remember being a Jakun, drawing ridiculous designs on the pavement, while waiting for my cab at 4am. My sneakers and the cuffs of my jeans were soaked by the time the cab arrived.

I don't know why I am suddenly reminiscing, but yeaaah.

May the winter this year be gentler to me. May it be gentler to all of us.

Spoke to Syaimaa today, YEAAAAAY. Alhamdulillah for baby sisters that brighten up your day , even if they're being annoying! HAHAHAHA, I love you hunnybuns :)

Sometimes, it is scary when I realize how similar the two of us can be. It is as if we received an identical life itinerary and we're almost always on the same page.

Then again, there have been some messy chapters in our young life, when we did not jive/mesh as harmoniously, but that's a different sort of FUN, isnt it? The noisy bickering, painful bodily attacks and eventual awkward make-up session made the house a little more... FESTIVE?

I'm a big bully when it comes to my two younger siblings. In fact, I get pretty bipolar when I get mad, but that's better now, I hope.

On a different note, just realized that I am 3 months away from the BeeDay.

Finally watched the Steve Jobs' commencement address at Stanford. I think I have watched it before but just forgot about it. Haih, macam mana lah nak berjaya?

Watching it again, I was extremely enlightened by his connecting-the-dots point. He summed up that point by saying...

"If I had never dropped out (college), I would have never dropped in on that calligraphy class and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course, it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But, it was very very clear looking backwards ten years later. Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So, you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in the future. You have to trust in something, your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even if it leads you off the well worn path, and that will make all the difference. "

Sitting here, in my rented room, thousands of miles from home- I pray with all my heart that the dots will connect eventually. I have faith that He has a plan for me and I hope that I will work hard to recognize it and have the courage to complete it.

It's Thursday night. And it rained real hard. So, I cannot seem to bring myself to do anything. Except, of course, lose myself in the vastness that cyberspace is.

You know what is awesome? Ginger ale. So, so awesome.

What else? What else is awesome? Baguette with tomato soup. Yeah, life is great.

Cooking has been rather fun. I even read a memoir by food writer/blogger/enthusiast, Molly Wizenberg, due to this expanding interest of mine.

In her book, A Homemade Life, for each memory that she includes, she also attaches the recipe of at least one dish that was learned/tweaked/made during the said memory.

And all of it was sooooo awesome. If some of you, watch food porn videos on Youtube, you should read this book too. I feel that this would qualify as its written equivalent, like maybe a food erotica or erofooda. Or whatever.

And now I am dying to try out a recipe from her book called, Bouchons Au Thon, which supposedly roughly translates to Tuna Corks. Corks? Yeah, corks.

So, basically, its main ingredients are canned tuna, cheese, tomato paste, and crème fraiche (googled it; somewhat similar to sour cream but allegedly tastier). Truth be told, 3 out of four of that are some of my favourite ingredients for a lip-smacking good meal, so please pardon my excitement. Not to mention, all you need to do is mix all the ingredients together and bake it in a muffin tray!

Stoked, stoked, stoked. I'm so stoked, but I need to make sure that I stay within budget for groceries. So, pray for me! LOL.

The worst feeling is when you realize that you're really very hungry and there is nothing to eat instantly.

But, then...

The greatest feeling is when you decide to wing it and all works out. And you served yourself a plate of awesome potato wedges!

I know the recipe is foolproof, but I still want to gloat!

By the way, check the video below. Especially, if Mama/Baba are reading this. Some of the scenes are filmed very very near to where I go to school. Most of the areas are walking distance to the dorm that I lived in last year (refer: Fenway Park- the green building and the Jejantas that they filmed at).

Since, I have been very very very terrible at posting pictures, maybe this video will do some justice to my beloved Beantown. The shots of downtown is breathtaking, if I may say so, despite all bias.

If you pause at 0:55-0:56, the shot shows a bridge over the Charles. Supposedly, this is the only place in the USA (or was it the world? Tak ingat..) that you can find a plane flying over a car, which is over train, that is moving over a boat. It is a fun fact, not sure how impressive it is to other people but I love it just the same.

p/s: If you pay close attention, you can even see the CITGO sign, which is a huge billboard with a red triangle on it. Sort of an iconic sign and my very personal compass (landmark) when I first got here.

This is totally random, just because it is overdue. But, I really really loved it. So, I need to post it here. So, last Saturday, us Malaysians at BU came together to have a picnic at Boston Common. Our plan was to meet up at the Boylston T stop and make our way together from there.

Miraculously, I was one of the two that arrived first. While waiting, we noticed a rally going on, literally 10 feet from us. I don't really have the hard facts but I know it had something to do with abortion. I am quite sure they were against legalizing it. But, what struck me the most (or shall I say tickled my fancy?) was this chant that the protesters were using.

It went like this:

It was so cute, at least for me!
Anyways...

We, as in the Malaysians, ended up heading to the Boston Public Garden because the Hempfest was going on in Boston Common. And we had a BLAAAAST. And we lived happily ever after...

I nicked my finger when cutting ginger and accidentally 'peeled' my nail when peeling potatoes for my Daging Masak Kicap.

But, alas, in suffering there is beauty. My Daging Masak Kicap menjadi! The last time I tried to Masak Kicap, it was a disaster. It was so horrendous, my little brother labeled me as hazardous material to have in the kitchen, ceyt.

Who has the last laugh now, kiddo? Or shall I say, last spatula? Oh, lame joke.

After several months of "berangan" sessions, I finally confirmed that there was no error in my allowance reduction. So, instead of getting extra moolah at the start of next month (to make up for the lack of it this month), I will just get the usual amount. BIG HAIH.

So, I am going to have to build up my room, little by little. Unlike the indulgent makeover that I had planned.

But, like they say, live and let die. Who the eff is they, by the way?

So, Osama Bin Laden has perished and the US Government possesses his body.

And the East side of campus suddenly comes alive at midnight with spirited chants and car honks, as a group of individuals parade down Comm Ave with an American flag.

Their deafening roars alternate from USA! USA! USA! to squeals and hoots and back to USA! USA! USA! again.

Wonder what it'll be like around campus tomorrow?
